Managers, emergency personnel, employees whose job it is to clean up hazardous waste, employees who work at storage facilities, employees who work at jobs that require the disposal of hazardous waste, and employees who work at a job the treats hazardous waste are required to have 40 hours of OSHA approved education. This education must address the topics that are included in 29 CFR 1910.120. This education is to be renewed annual during an 8 hour re-certification program.

Hazwoper 24 Hour Course
The 24 hour course is designed for employees and workers who are work on an occasional basis and for a limited task. An example of an occasional worker may be someone that periodically tests ground water on a hazardous material site. These employees or worker also requires 8 hours of supervised field experience.
Hazwoper 8 Hour First Responder Course
This course is designed for employees and civil service personnel that are required to respond to emergency situations that involve hazardous materials. The course should train personnel specifically in response protocols that minimize risk of exposure.
